Most laundry detergents on the market are full of chemicals like phosphates, chlorine, linear alkyl sulfonates and other things not found in nature. Some of these are hard on skin and lungs. Others are hard on the environment.

Multiple Chemical Sensitivity
(MCS) is basically a subset of Environmental Illness (EI), which is caused by living in a toxic world. The chemicals that were synthesized after World War II (including, pesticides, synthetic fragrances, cleaning products, detergents, etc.) are mostly “petro-chemicals” (petroleum based) and are quite toxic to humans. They knew that when the canary stopped singing or died, it was time to get out before it affected them as well. We “human canaries” are here to warn the rest of you that, unless you start making changes and avoid as many toxic chemicals as possible, you too may become very sick.

Don’t be fooled, these chemicals are affecting ALL of us in some way or another. Think about the last time you got a headache for no apparent reason. Could it be possible that someone had recently sprayed perfume or pesticides near you without you knowing it? Had you recently used scented laundry detergent or Clorox to clean with? The products we use on our skin are absorbed directly into the bloodstream (the reason why nitroglycerine, nicotine, and hormone patches work). The chemicals we breathe (such as perfumes, formaldehyde, pesticides, etc.) all go straight to our brains and can cause low-level to severe damage – similar to how someone can snort cocaine or glue to get a “high”. Start reading labels – check for petro-chemicals, formaldehyde, and fragrance, and avoid them as much as possible. A clue that an ingredient may be a petro-chemical is the “prop” prefix. A clue that an ingredient releases formaldehyde is “Quaternium”. Be careful about products labeled “fragrance free” or “unscented”. Don’t trust them! Read the label and be sure they don’t list “fragrance” or “masking fragrance”.  Don’t put anything on your skin you’d be afraid to eat, because the end result is the same!

Keep in mind this purifier works on the air only. It does not eliminate cat urine in carpets or fabrics. Cat urine odor in some fabrics has been known to be eliminated by focusing the air purifier on the area of cat urine saturation. It is not commonly effective for fabrics or carpets, however. Many people stumble across this blog and want to know what we are all about.  The writer of this blog and owner of this website is Mark Montgomery.  In 1996, Mark was approached by a friend with a company selling air purifiers.  After some pursuasion an air purifier was purchased and that launched a new approach to health, although this didn’t start immediately.

Mark suffered from allergic reactions to Ragweed.  Not everyone has ragweed in their environment but in the South, ragweed can be a vicious and unrelenting source of misery and aggravation to the upper respiratory system.  Typically in the fall and occasionally in the spring there is a time period in which ragweed pollen fills the air and causes symptoms like, runny nose, runny eyes, itching throat and eyes, sneezing, sore throat, and all the other symptoms yo can imagine that go along with those.  In the fall, this typically lasts from September until the first freeze.  In the spring, this can last from 2 to 8 weeks.

When Mark purchased the air purifier in December of 1996 it was taken home and plugged in and forgotten about.  It was running 24/7 and pretty much never thought about again.  The spring of 1997 rolled around and there were no particularly unpleasant days of allergy suffering.  This is not altogether uncommon as the spring has just a short time of ragweed pollen.  However, the fall of 1997 rolled around and Mark suffered absolutely no allergic attacks which was very unusual.  He began to question if his body’s chemical structure was changing.  Have you ever heard the expression, “You will eventually outgrow those allergies”?  After a discussion with his wife, she pointed out the fact that they had been running that air purifer 24/7 since last year.
